Intruder Alarms

Audible Only Alarm Systems

There are two main types of intruder alarm available, the first is an audible only system.
An audible alarm uses internal and external sounders to signal when an alarm has been activated, relying on noise to alert the local area and scare of an intruder.

Alarms are made up from a few basic elements which are selected according to the specific site, although there are many different components that can be installed most residential and business systems will all have one or more of the following equipment.

The alarms system can also include options for Smoke Detectors and Personal Attack Buttons amongst other equipment. All of the components required for you property and possible extra options will be discussed with you on your FREE no obligation survey. With an audible alarm you also have the option to have a Wireless System installed.

Monitored Alarm Systems

The second type of Intruder Alarm is a monitored system. A monitored alarm contains all the basic components that complete an audible alarm, but as well as relying on noise to scare off a potential intruder and warn people in the local area of an attempted break in, a signal is also sent to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) this signal is then vetted to exclude false alarms (where possible) and passed to the emergency services to attend.

There are three common signalling methods available for a monitored alarm system

The installation and use of a monitored alarm is governed closely by The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) An alarm system cannot be monitored without Police approval, as without this approval, they will not respond to any calls from the ARC. ACPO lays down many requirements for such alarm installations, such as having your system serviced twice yearly. All these requirements are designed to minimise police false alarms and maximise intruder apprehension.

Another alternative to the above (although not classified as a monitored system) is the Speech Dialler, which, when the alarm is activated, will transmit a spoken message or text message over a telephone line to up to four different locations, including mobile phones. However, the Police cannot be called in response to a speech dialler.

Servicing and Care

At Bridger Alarms we offer two types of servicing contract. It is advised to have your alarm maintained in some way as this reduces the chance of unwanted false alarms. ACPO require any monitored alarm to be service twice yearly, it may also be a requirement set by your insurance company when the system is installed.
The two types of contact that Bridger Alarms offer are:

Standard Maintenance

This contract entitles the customer to a yearly service (twice a year for monitored systems), access to the 24hr 365 days a year emergency call out service, a reduction in the hour labour rate and a reduced out of hours callout charge.

We offer a 24hr emergency callout service to all our contract customers, this service is linked with the ARC who will take the details of the fault and pass the job onto an engineer. The engineer will then call you and take action on the event.

Premium Maintenance

This type of contract offers the same access to our callout services, but there are no additional charges for hourly rate or out of hours callout, providing the equipment is faulty or the cause of the callout is not the responsibility of the customer. There is also a new for old exchange on any faulty parts on the system.
